Actor Rob Lowe said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight (ET) published on Monday that a sequel to the iconic film “St. Elmo's Fire” is in the “very early stages of development.”
“We've met with the studio and have been talking about it for about four months,” Lowe revealed to ET, “but it's very, very, very, very early stages. So, we don't know what will happen.”
Lowe explained that the popularity of the recent documentary “Bratz,” which focuses on members of the “Brat Pack,” a group of young actors from the '80s who became a huge part of pop culture, “only created more anticipation for a possible sequel.”
The 1985 film starred many members of the Brat Pack, including Emilio Estevez, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson and Ally Sheedy, as well as Andrew McCarthy, director of the recent Hulu documentary. (RELATED: Andrew McCarthy Explains Molly Ringwald's Absence from New 'Bratz' Documentary).

The Outsiders actor was seated next to his son and co-star John Owen Lowe during an interview with ET promoting the upcoming season of his Netflix comedy series Unstable .

Mr Rowe's son said he had never seen “St. Elmo's Fire” but the 29-year-old had mistakenly called it “St. Elmer's” and his father had repeatedly corrected him.
“You didn't see that?” ET interviewer Ash Crossan asked.
“No, he hasn't seen it,” Robb replied.
“I'll do it eventually,” John said with a slight shrug.
According to ET, the 1985 film, directed by Joel Schumacher, follows seven recent college friends trying to survive in the real world after college.
Sony has reportedly begun exploring the possibility of making a sequel to the film, with the hopes of reuniting the original cast members. according to Deadline report for June.
