Vice President Kamala Harris, a leading contender for the Democratic presidential nomination, is openly searching for a running mate for the 2024 presidential election. On Monday, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, co-chair of Harris' campaign, said: stated Harris is expected to make a decision within the next week.
Leading candidates include Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona, Governor Andy Beshear of Kentucky and Governor Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania. (Related: JD FOSTER: The Harris Effect)
meanwhile Recent Opinion Polls Despite the fact that all of these candidates are virtually unknown, the mainstream media would have us believe that these Democrats are moderates who will help sway independents and battleground state voters to Harris.
Politico The Wall Street Journal detailed how Democrats are backing Sen. Mark Kelly because of his support for border security. This Democratic Governor knows how to win in a Republican state. Is his party listening? The Philadelphia Inquirer claims: “Shapiro is making Republicans nervous..”
Are they right? Are there such things as “moderate” Democrats?
Kelly, a former Navy pilot and astronaut, has presented himself as someone who can be trusted to put voters ahead of President Joe Biden's radical policies, but a closer look at his voting record shows the opposite: Kelly voted with Joe Biden. 95% of the timesupported all of Biden's nominees and voted for the bipartisan Safer Communities Act.2938) would infringe on the Second Amendment rights of responsible gun owners and encourage states to adopt gun confiscation mandates, known as red flag laws. Support a mandatory gun buyback programImagine this dynamic duo confiscating guns in the White House.
Kelly also endorsed HR1The far-left power grab would federalize the electoral process, legalize felons voting (something Harris supports), and funnel millions of taxpayer dollars into candidates' campaign coffers (including Harris' own).
Beshear has positioned himself as the only Democrat who can effectively win in Trump-supporting areas, but that's not the case. The truth is, when it comes down to it, Beshear is just as beholden to the far left and its extreme policies as any other Democrat in his party. rejection Kentucky Senate Bill 150 would ban irreversible sex-reassignment surgery and hormone therapy for children under the age of 18. Thankfully, his proposal was rejected by the state legislature.
Shapiro is also seen as a safe choice for Harris, but his record suggests he makes decisions based solely on what serves his popularity and power: Before becoming governor of the Keystone State, Shapiro served as attorney general. the goal President Trump's administration (no doubt to increase its influence over the Democratic Party) Keeping small businesses closed During Pennsylvania's COVID lockdown.
Shapiro's record as governor has been poor. Under his leadership, Pennsylvania Rank The state ranks 35th in economic outlook, 42nd in economic performance, and 46th in net domestic migration, meaning residents are fleeing the state in droves.
Additionally, he must explain his past settlement record. sexual harassment A $295,000 bill against one of his aides, “at least a portion of that.” According to the Philadelphia Inquirerwill be “funded by taxpayer money.”
Scraping the shallow, shiny surface, neither Kerry, Beshear nor Shapiro pass the “moderate” smell test, and clearly none of them can be expected to stand up for the American people above the whims and demands of their own party.
The reality is that today's Democratic Party is run by far-left progressives, and no one is immune to their influence. Without the blessing of the far-left wing of the party, Democrats have no chance of winning.
Harris and her team understand this truth. As we speculate on which “moderate” Harris will choose, they welcome the positive media coverage, knowing full well that she has no hope of winning the general election without first securing her far-left base (which they are passionate about). There is no way she can win Pennsylvania or Arizona without first securing Minnesota and Illinois.
More importantly, no Democrat today is willing to rein in arguably the most liberal administration in our nation's history. Moderate Democrats are a dying breed, and it is foolhardy to think that any one person can return the party to center and common sense.
That unicorn was slaughtered a long time ago.
