Lionsgate released the trailer for “Greedy People” on Monday, and it's hard not to put yourself in the shoes of nearly every character in this dark comedy.
If Lionsgate hadn't produced it,Greedy people” was the most fascinating new indie film hitting theaters in August. It has all the makings of a great, unconventional dark comedy. And I'm not just talking about the dreary aesthetic and stellar cast of everyone's favorite mainstream indie crossovers. Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Also joining the cast is Uzo Aduba, who we all loved from Orange Is the New Black, with Jim Gaffigan, Blake Nelson and Simon Rex continuing to play their usual quirky roles.
The film finds Patel and Gordon-Levitt's characters stumble upon a bizarre murder and discover $1 million in cash next to the body, asking the question: what would you do in that situation?
“'Greedy People' is a compelling crime thriller in every sense of the word,” said Allison Lynch, director of acquisitions at Lionsgate. Said Variety reported on the film in February, saying, “Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lily James and Himesh Patel lead a stellar cast that runs the gamut from hilarious to terrifying, and the movie keeps you guessing at all times.” (Related article: Can you guess what the trailer for the movie “White Noise” means?)
We need more weird stuff like this, and it's been a while since the last good weird indie film, Self Reliance, came out, so we're definitely longing for something fresh.

The film hits theaters on August 23 and is all but guaranteed to do modestly at the box office, but has the potential to become a cult favorite once it hits streaming services.
