‘High Level Of Pain’: Elle King Breaks Her Silence On Drunken Dolly Parton Performance

Elle King spoke out about her botched performance celebrating Dolly Parton's birthday, admitting she was drunk and had mental issues during the performance.

She spoke about the incident during Tuesday's episode of Kaitlyn Bristowe's “Off the Vine” podcast. The country singer said she's been trying to bounce back since the embarrassing incident in January. “It was so sad and that no one really knew what I was doing behind closed doors,” she said. “And I just took it like, if this isn't going to happen, something else is going to happen.”

Country music star King was performing at the Ryman Auditorium in celebration of Dolly Parton's 78th birthday, where she admitted she didn't know the lyrics to Parton's hit “Marry Me.” She went on to tell the crowd onstage that she was “f***ing drunk.”

“I don't know the words to this f**king city song,” King sang at the time. “Don't tell Dolly, it's her birthday.” Video footage of the disastrous performance was widely shared on social media.

King reflected on his own personal struggles.

“I've had to heal and I've had to deal and I've had to go through a lot of stuff, and someone said to me, 'I think there might be a silver lining or something good that can come out of that experience,'” she told Bristowe on the podcast.

Ms King said she has since worked hard to improve herself and has found “a lot more positives” since the incident. She said she is now a “different person”.
