A hiker in Isle Royale National Park experienced sudden complications and died Monday, authorities said Wednesday.
An unidentified 37-year-old woman from Battle Creek, Michigan lost her life while hiking near Lake LeSage. According to The hikers were driving by on their way to Isle Royale National Park. According to authorities, the incident occurred in the late afternoon when the hiker, who was accompanying her partner, began experiencing serious health issues. The woman was no longer able to walk, eventually losing consciousness and stopping breathing.

CPR was administered immediately, but it was not possible to revive him. A fellow hiker nearby sent a delayed text message to 911, which authorities picked up. The message was forwarded to the National Park Service's command center, authorities said in a press release.

“Park rangers and emergency personnel discovered the party Monday night and remained on scene. Early Tuesday morning, a team of Isle Royale staff responded to the scene and transported the party from the remote location,” officials said in a statement. “The Isle Royale community offers its sincere condolences to the family and friends of those who lost their lives.” (Related article: American teenager dies after falling 300 feet while hiking in western Switzerland)
