This has the potential to be pure fire, but also a bit of a miss.
Director and screenwriter David O. Russell has been working on his John Madden biopic for months, maybe years, and it looks like he's finally nearing completion. (Related story: The Bills' declining situation worsens as star linebacker Matt Milano is out indefinitely with a torn biceps.)
Legendary actor Nicolas Cage (some of you may have heard of him) will star as himself, the late Madden, in the film about the NFL legend. Madden was a great football coach and sports commentator. Directed by Russell, the film will be produced by Amazon-MGM Studios. Russell is known for films like “American Hustle,” “The Fighter” and “Silver Linings Playbook.”
However, this won't be a typical biopic or sports drama, but rather a film centered around a video game called “Madden.” The Hollywood ReporterMore specifically, this will be the origin story of the classic game.

The film will be part biopic and part chronicle of the game's creation.

This is coming from someone who loves Madden and plans to buy it this weekend, but I feel like a movie about John Madden should be about John Madden and not about video games. Honestly, it's unfair to such a legend that the first big movie to be made about him is actually about video games.
This is a travesty and a major failure on the part of all involved.
