‘We Are No Longer Buying That’: Ex-Bernie Sanders-Supporter Reveals What Gen Z Seeks In Presidential Candidate

The student, who previously supported Vermont Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders for president, revealed what young voters are looking for in 2024 candidates on “Fox & Friends” on Sunday.

Yi-an Tang, a 20-year-old student at the University of Illinois, told Fox News co-host Lawrence Jones that Gen Z voters are “fed up with” Democratic politicians' “popular voting system.”

“Young people like me don't just want to watch TikTok videos of politicians and celebrities together. Young people today don't believe in that anymore. [of] “What Kamala's administration has shown us over the past three and a half years, she's not responsible for the debacle that's happening, but young people like me, who are politicians and know this is not a popularity contest, are fed up with the way it's being done. Young people like me are no longer convinced by this popularity contest and are appalled by the state of the United States right now,” Tan said.

Vice President Kamala Harris, who is expected to be the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee at Thursday's Democratic National Convention, has reportedly invited musicians such as Megan Thee Stallion and Bob Iver to liven up crowds at political rallies. Harris also branded her social media accounts after the green color that pop singer Charli XCX made a splash on her sixth studio album, “Brat.” (Related: 'Just be a regular white guy!': CNN panelist urges Democrats to exclude celebrities from DNC)

“As a young voter myself, I'm appalled by it all,” Tan said. “It's just heartbreaking to see America falling apart right now.”

“We're seeing the left move from extremism to extremism to extremism,” he continued, “and big, important questions like how do we value the economy, but it's not just the economy that we're concerned about. The whole culture is changing.”

Tan admitted to Jones that he was previously a “socialist” who supported Bernie Sanders in the 2020 presidential election, but that he had changed his mind after studying left-wing policies.

“I realized that this was just a promise to get votes,” the student said. “These policies mean that they're no longer afraid to call themselves 'socialists.' These socialist policies have ruined the country, ruined families, and messed everything up.”
