“They were loading a tortilla machine when the man slipped and fell and his arm got trapped in the machine. It rotated 90 degrees and his arm got completely trapped around his shoulder,” San Diego Fire Battalion Chief Josh Slatinski told NBC San Diego. “When crews arrived, they found the man airborne and were able to dismantle the machine to get the man to the ground and distribute the weight around his shoulder and then load the man and part of the machine into an ambulance and transport him to a local hospital.”
Slatinski reportedly added that he had consulted with a doctor before performing any procedures with the machine. “There's always the possibility of amputations in the field or medical procedures that we can't handle,” he told the outlet.
Fox 5 reported that rescuers were able to mostly dismantle the machine nearly an hour after the call was made.
No other people were reportedly injured in the incident.
