The Guardian reporter George Chidi launched an expletive-filled tirade at a Channel 5 News reporter outside the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois on Tuesday.
“I'm a journalist and I write for the Guardian,” Chidi, wearing a knitted mask, told Channel 5's correspondent, who gave his name only as Sidam.
“Guardian?” Sydam asked incredulously.
“Yes, the Guardian, a major London newspaper, the ninth largest English language publication in the world,” Chidi replies. “I'm a bona fide journalist. Who are you?”
“I am Sidam,” he replied.
“Who's Sidam?” Chidi asks impatiently.
“This is Sidam from Channel 5.”
“Do you like local food?” asks Chidi.
“No, it's Channel 5 on YouTube,” Sidam replies.
“Yeah, I get it,” Chidi said, then escalated further, “What the hell is wrong with that?”
“No problem,” Sidam replies.
“I think so,” Chidi shot back, “I'm looking at a guy who calls himself a journalist and won't reveal his identity. You're disgusting. Any decent journalist would dispute this, and once I'm done with all this bullshit, I'm going to find out what the hell this whole f*** story is about.”
“Okay, figure it out for yourself,” Sidam replied with a laugh.
“I will,” Chidi replies.
of video We cut to Chidi's lengthy diatribe: “This sucks, your bros suck, the people listening to this shit sucks, shame on you if you're giving this guy a click,” Chidi rants.
“I was verbally attacked by the Guardian,” Mr. Sydham said.
Later in the video, the two reunite as Chidi appears to interrupt another of Sydam's interviews.
“Fuck, fuck your mom, actually I have 20 bucks, I'm gonna fuck your mom, and maybe she'll give me 10 bucks back so her husband can watch,” he said, and walked away.
“Wow, it's crazy that someone from The Guardian would act like that,” an onlooker said.
George Chidi is a great journalist and he likes to say stuff like, “Fuck you, fuck you's mother. I actually have 20 bucks and I'm gonna fuck your mother! Maybe she'll give me my 10 bucks back so her husband can go see Fuck you.” Nice. pic.twitter.com/WJ6TyWpWN5
