SMYTHE: Take It From A Legal Immigrant, Democrats Don’t Want Us Here

I was a staunch liberal when I first moved to the US in 2016 as a “legal resident alien of extraordinary ability.” My experience going through the immigration process under both major parties showed me the bullshit that Democrats are trying to sell their citizens.

And it does not begin and end with immigration.

In 2016, under the Obama administration, I came to the same realisation as most of the world: if I wanted to achieve my dreams, I had to move to America. No one in the UK thought I could be a successful non-fiction writer, so I decided to use my 10 years of experience to move to California and prove them wrong… and I did.

I paid extra to expedite my first visa approval, it was supposed to take 2 weeks but just before the deadline I was asked to provide additional information to support my application. fair enoughThen I thought, This is normal, especially for first-time foreigners. What I didn't realize was that the immigration system had just introduced what appeared to be a Democratic legal loophole: Because they had technically responded to my petition within the guaranteed time frame, after they received my additional data, they could make me wait as long as they wanted to approve my entry. It took months. Months that I couldn't get back even if my visa expired.

After Donald Trump won the 2016 election, people started telling me to marry anyone, anyone, to secure my place in this country. That was never an option for me because I don't like the idea of cheating, marrying someone I don't want, or compromising myself or my relationship with God by spending time with them.

I also found that most liberals don't realize how offensive it is to tell a woman what she gets for selling her freedom and her body. right To work? Get outta here!

When it was time for my next visa renewal under the Trump administration in 2019, I thought my journey in America was over. You can imagine my surprise when I got a call from a lawyer who asked me if I was a spy. My visa had been approved in record time…under the Trump administration?! A super racist Republican who hates immigrants! But how could this be?

My second visa renewal coincided with California's new normal: mentally ill and drug-addicted zombies living and dying on the sidewalks. They called it a “homeless crisis” and demanded more taxpayer money to solve it. But… policy It seemed like I was perpetuating it. (Related: Kamala Harris once thought a border wall was “un-American.” Now she supports it.)

The parallels between my initial immigration experience (being told things would be super easy because Democrats welcomed immigrants) and being lied to about so many social crises were odd. Why do Democrats keep saying one thing and doing the opposite? This was not the America I learned about from the corporate news media and “The White House.”

It wasn't until Trump became president that I realized I might be wrong about all things Democratic in America, and it was only because the data and my experiences continued to guide me. Because my undergraduate thesis focused on elements of drug legalization and broad sociological trend theory, I was perplexed by how many Democratic policies were so clearly designed to undermine American voters and their quality of life. No matter the subject — the economy, the housing market, foreign relations — the Democrats got it wrong. They even screwed up marijuana legalization.

And yet my liberal American friends — friends who'd never even been to America — continued to support a party that I could see was blatantly lying to them. It didn't matter what had happened to me — my experiences ran counter to the status quo of the Democratic cabal. Being white, blond, and blue-eyed didn't help my case, either. As a former friend once put it, I wasn't a “real immigrant.”

Fast forward to 2022, and I knew what was coming under a Biden administration. Did I really want to go through the immigration process again under a Democrat administration? Given the dire financial situation gripping America, the emotional pain of instability felt not worth it. Did God really want me to live here to weather this potential collapse of civilization?

Then I remembered. Democrats are a small but vocal group in this great country, mostly on the coasts. If I could move to a normal place, away from people who treat politicians like celebrities, the American Dream could be mine. So I did. Eventually, I found myself in a small town in the Carolinas, where the real America still exists. It was here that I met my fiancé, the most passionate American of all time.

I would argue that I am still a committed partner when it comes to protecting this great country. Unlike most Americans, I know what it's like to live in another country. And even with the most repugnant Democratic policies, especially those designed to normalize human trafficking as the primary form of immigration, America is still better than any other country.

But this situation will not last if people do not wake up to the lies being spread by the current administration. If we continue to vote for liars who tell lies, eventually the whole of America may become California.

Having lived in this great country for almost a decade now, I truly believe that Democrats don't want legal immigration in this country because to get approved for the best visas, you have to be either an actual expert in your field (i.e. smart enough to see behind the headlines) or extremely famous. In my experience, smart, successful, financially literate immigrants are the Democrats' worst immigrant nightmare. Why? Because people who fit this description won't vote for a party that will destroy our economy, our security, and our families' futures. We also don't need the support of a welfare state. Thus, we have greater autonomy than many born-and-raised Americans, and far more autonomy than illegal immigrants.

Please take this from my exaggerated life story: the next time you hear Democrats talk about immigration (or anything at this point), please understand that they don't want anyone — smart, capable people, women, and children — to be welcomed easily and safely into America. As I learned firsthand, only Republicans enable that process.

Maybe this is why so many legal immigrants, and especially all the immigrants I know, support everything Republican, because we know that the Republican Party supports us.
