Former Republican Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney announced Wednesday that she will vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in the November election.
Cheney announced the decision in a speech at Duke University, The New York Times ReportedCheney has been a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump and lost her 2022 re-election bid to a Trump-backed challenger.
“As I said earlier, I think it's really important that people realize that not only is there a risk that Trump will discourage people from voting, but that especially in battleground states, they don't have the luxury of writing down the candidate's name,” Cheney said. According to “As a conservative and someone who believes in and values the Constitution, I've thought deeply about this. Given the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only will I not be voting for Donald Trump, I will be voting for Kamala Harris,” she wrote in a video posted to X.

Cheney was ousted from her position in House Republican leadership in 2021 after voting in favor of impeaching President Trump. She was also censured by the Wyoming Republican Party. Prior to endorsing Harris, Cheney had skipped the Republican National Convention along with other prominent Republicans, including George W. Bush, Mike Pence, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. Cheney has been considering running for president as a third-party candidate and has voiced her determination to “do whatever it takes” to stop Trump from retaking the White House.
