Crowd Shouts Down Climate Protesters Who Disrupt Youngkin As He Talks About 9/11, Arlington Cemetery

On Wednesday, the crowd booed as protesters from the liberal-backed activist group Climate Defiance interrupted Republican Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin during a speech about 9/11 and Arlington National Cemetery.

As Youngkin recounted his morning visit to Arlington National Cemetery and spoke about the importance of honoring the heroes and victims of Sept. 11, 2001, a group of protesters swarmed the stage.

“No more gas, no more oil, leave the carbon in the soil,” the activists chanted, to which the crowd responded largely negatively. Security personnel escorted the group outside, where they continued chanting for a short time in the hallway, brandishing placards with the slogan.

“Today is a day to reflect on America,” Youngkin said, continuing his speech while ignoring the protesters' slogans, Fox News reported. And today is a day to remember that there are incredibly brave men and women who have raised their hand and said, 'send me,' and who stand between evil and peace.”

Climate Defiance, a climate activist group founded in 2023, received funding from the Los Angeles-based 501(c)(3) organization Climate Emergency Fund (CEF), Politico reported. This isn't the first time Climate Defiance has disrupted an event: The group was among activists who blocked entry to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and blocked exits ahead of a United Nations General Assembly meeting on climate policy to be held in New York City in September 2023.

“Harris must beat Trump,” the group declared in July. As Election Day approaches, Climate Defiance has called on Vice President Kamala Harris to incorporate climate action into her election strategy.

Youngkin, the Federalist Society and Climate Defiance did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
