Pop Star Makes Startling Admission About Obsessive Habit And I’m Worried For The Younger Generations

Singer and former “Dance Moms” star JoJo Siwa has admitted to being completely obsessed with social media, which is even more worrying for her young fans.

One segment of the documentary, “Child Star,” reportedly featured a discussion between Siwa and Demi Lovato, in which Siwa explained how dependent she was on social media status. peopleShe admitted that by the age of 13, she had become a “numbers addict” and was constantly obsessed with “likes” and “views.” This is incredibly worrying for any young person, but then she made an even more startling confession: she reportedly posts more than 300 Snapchats a day, documenting every last detail of her daily routine.

Love her or hate her, she is a public figure that many young women look up to and admire, and at 21 years old, she has a much bigger responsibility to her fans. Is this really the message she should be sending?

“I would look at my YouTube channel and see the views and the revenue I was making — I was easily making six figures a month — and I would see the subscriber numbers and want to beat them, and want to beat them, and want to beat them and drive me crazy when I didn't,” she tells People magazine in the documentary.

With her millions of followers watching her every move, it's unlikely they perceive this as “cool.” Even worse, impressionable young people may see this behavior as normal. She's shaping future generations' relationship with social media and influencing their perception of self-worth — and none of it is healthy.

People magazine reports that Siwa is a frequent Snapchat user and has admitted that her posts are “quite extreme,” but it doesn't seem like she has any intention of actually doing anything about it. For many young women who turn to her for social outlets, the damage is already done.

“It's hard. I have so much work and my whole day is being filmed, everything I eat, what I sing in the car, everything is being filmed,” she said of the intense focus on social media statistics that has come to define her, according to People magazine.

“Everything I do gets criticized. Everything I do gets talked about. In the end, I have nothing left,” she told People magazine in the documentary. (RELATED: JoJo Siwa's 21st Birthday Was the Most Embarrassing, Excruciatingly Drunk Party)
