Man dead after Yuma officer-involved shooting

Yuma, Arizona (AZFamily) — A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Yuma Friday evening.

The Yuma Police Department 3000 block of Regen Drive Around 6:30 p.m.

The suspect, a 34-year-old man, fled the scene with the minor and barricaded himself inside a home near County 11th Avenue and Desert Aire Boulevard.

A perimeter was set up and the Special Enforcement Team was called in to assist officers, who police said attempted to call out the suspect, who then allegedly fired multiple shots at them.

Police said they tried to negotiate with the suspect again, but he fired his gun again, and the Yuma Police Department said the action continued several times before officers fired their weapons.

The suspect was shot and officers administered first aid and was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

The Yuma Regional Emergency Incident Response Team is investigating the shooting. No officers or other area residents were injured.

The officers involved in the shooting have been reassigned.

This marks the 69th officer-involved shooting in the state so far in 2024.
