When Michigan Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer criticized Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel over the prosecution of anti-Israel protesters on college campuses, she avoided a question about whether her state's Democratic Representative Rashida Tlaib had engaged in anti-Semitism.
Tlaib, one of the far-left members of the congressional “Squad,” accused Nessel of taking a biased approach in denouncing anti-Israel protesters in connection with the University of Michigan encampment, the Detroit Metro Times reported. “Look, Jake, all I can say is I know the Jewish community in Michigan is suffering, and I know the Palestinian, Muslim and Arab communities are suffering,” Whitmer responded. “It's really, really hard and painful to see the incredible toll that this war has taken on both communities, and my heart aches for a lot of people. But my job as Governor is to make sure that both of these communities are protected and respected under Michigan law, and that's exactly what I'm going to be focused on.”

Tapper confronted Governor Whitmer about accusations against Tlaib, who has been accused of making anti-Semitic comments in the House of Representatives and who called on Democratic primary voters to support the “undecided” delegate slate after Biden failed to secure a permanent stop in the Democratic primary.
“Do you think Attorney General Nessel is not doing her job?” Tapper asked Whitmer. “Congresswoman Tlaib is suggesting that we shouldn't prosecute individuals who Nessel says are breaking the law, and that Nessel is only prosecuting them because she's Jewish and the protesters aren't. That's a pretty egregious accusation. Do you believe that's true?”
“Jake, as I said, I'm not going to get involved in this discussion that they're having,” Whitmer said, “I can say this: We want students to feel safe on campus, and we recognize that everyone has the right to express how they feel about issues, the right to speak out, and I'm going to take every step I can to ensure that both of those things are true.” (RELATED: 'Demonstration of hate': Sen.
