If you love dinosaurs and fossils, or want to learn more about dinosaurs, you're invited to the National Park Service (NPS) National Fossil Festival in Page, Arizona, on October 9, 2024. Glen Canyon National Recreation Area (NRA), known as one of the best areas in the country to study fossils, will host the premier NPS event this year on National Fossil Day.
The NPS National Fossil Festival features free, fun and informative activities throughout the day. Glen Canyon NRA Rangers include Bryce Canyon National Park, Zion National Park, Petrified Forest National Park, Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, St. George Dinosaur Discovery Siteand Glen Canyon Preserve.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Karl Heiden Visitor Center will have a booth offering special paleontology activities and an opportunity to complete the Junior Paleontologist Booklet. From 4 to 5 p.m., NPS rangers will lead guided hikes to nearby dinosaur tracks. The day begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Powell Museum, 6 North Lake Powell Blvd., with a talk by Bureau of Land Management (BLM) paleontologist Dr. Alan Titus titled “Rewriting the Family History of Tyrannosaurus.” Reach high tide. . ”
“We are excited to host this year’s National Fossil Day event,” said Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Director Michelle Kearns. “We want to remind visitors how important it is to protect the park's resources. If you are in an area where fossils may be present, 'Leave No Trace' Practice the principles. If you discover any fossils, please let us know. Take a photo, note the location, and leave it where you found it to let the ranger know. ”
