Jury Awards $300,000,000 To Former Children’s Hospital Patients Claiming Doctor Sexually Abused Them

A Virginia civil court on Friday awarded $300 million in judgments to three young women who said they were abused by a hospital's former medical director while they were patients, WTVR reports.

The lawsuit was filed by 46 former patients of Cumberland Hospital for Children and Youth in New Kent County against the hospital and its longtime (and now former) medical director, Dr. Daniel Davideau of WTVR. Arose out of a $1 million lawsuit. reported.

Davideau was previously charged with four felonies in a separate criminal case filed in December 2022 by two of the 46 plaintiffs, The Associated Press reported.

The two women alleged Davido groped their breasts, inappropriately touched their pubic hair and penetrated their vaginas with his fingers during thigh pulse tests. Prosecutor T. Scott Rennick also argued that Davidow used the tests as a “ruse” to abuse the teens and that he had “complete control” over them. did.

Davideau reportedly denied the charges and demonstrated the test in court, claiming that a female chaperone was present in the testing room.

Judge B. Elliott Bondurant acquitted the doctor of criminal charges on April 26 in what the judge called a difficult case, citing inconsistencies in the plaintiffs' testimony.

Davidow is scheduled to appear in court again at his next civil trial in March 2025, WTVR reports.
