Mingus is coming off a tough back-to-back. After surging to 39 points last Friday, they were further limited Friday against Deer Valley. They suffered a blowout 24-8 loss to the Skyhawks.
Meanwhile, Flagstaff improved with its second straight win against Copper Canyon on Thursday, and will enter its next game on a three-game winning streak. They comfortably overtook the Aztecs and won the game 45-28. The Eagles' offense stepped up its game in this game, and this was the most points they had scored all season.
Much of Flagstaff's success can be attributed to Jadon Wetzel, who totaled 173 yards and three touchdowns, and Chase Brown, who threw for 310 yards and three touchdowns. Wetzel's rushing numbers have been exceptional so far, with three straight games dating back to last season with at least 112 rushing yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Carlson, who had 72 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Flagstaff didn't let Copper Canyon hold the ball and forced four fumbles. It was truly a group effort as Ethan Suda, Tuffy Callander, Garrett DeGraff and Wyatt Ramsgate each picked one.
Mingus' loss dropped his record to 1 win and 4 losses. For Flagstaff, this was their third straight home win, pushing their record to 4-1.
The last time Flagstaff met in September 2023, Mingus rolled past Flagstaff by a score of 29-10. Is another win in store for Mingus, or will Flagstaff turn the tables? We'll know the answer soon.
