‘Murderers Have Been Let Off Quicker’: ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith Absolutely Rips MLB To Shreds After Pete Rose’s Death

ESPN sports personality Stephen A. Smith completely trashed Major League Baseball for not inducting Pete Rose into the Hall of Fame during his lifetime. Rose, MLB's all-time hitting leader and former manager of the Cincinnati Reds, passed away on Monday at the age of 83.

After a hellish baseball career as a player, Rose became manager of the Reds, but was eventually arrested for gambling on a game he was involved in. As a result, he was permanently banned from Major League Baseball and was never allowed to play baseball again. Enter the Hall of Fame. for yearRose denied the charges, but eventually admitted to gambling. But even though he eventually came clean, he was never forgiven by MLB teams, former commissioner Bud Selig, and current commissioner Rob Manfred. On Tuesday's edition of “First Take,” Stephen A. Smith called on the entire major league world to disavow Rose, and he offered no pushback.

“Murderers are being released faster than Pete Rose!” cried Smith.

“Baseball wants to sit there in its lofty, powerful, hypocritical self and slander this man…In 1999, Rose received a standing ovation.” [during the World Series] They gave him a standing ovation. the american said [blank] All of that! We want this guy here and we know what he did in the game and we know he hurt himself and we know it wasn't in good shape. But that shouldn't erase 23 years — yet MLB did it! ”
