CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten said Monday that Vice President Kamala Harris is polling very well among white voters with college degrees.
Former President Donald Trump is gaining support from “working class voters,” including non-white Americans without college degrees and union members. Enten said on CNN News Central that Harris’ strong support among college graduates could offset Trump’s gains. “Let’s start with white college graduates, because white college graduates were a group that was increasingly leaning to the left. Yes, this is the Democratic vote among white college graduates. See, Hillary Clinton is 5. We beat them by a point. And Joe Biden won by nine points,” Enten told host John Berman. “Look at this lead that Kamala Harris has in the polls among white college graduates right now. That’s an 18-point lead, a lead that Joe Biden had just four years ago. It’s double.”
“As we go back through the record books, this would be the biggest victory for a Democratic presidential candidate among white college graduates in recorded history. And that goes all the way back to the early 1950s,” he continued. “You could probably go back even further, but the bottom line is that among this group Kamala Harris is doing ridiculously, ridiculously well, and that’s why she did nothing to outperform Donald Trump among voters.・This is one of the main reasons why Trump was able to counter the rise in approval ratings.” A college degree. That’s because she’s doing very well among white college-educated voters. ”
Berman asked Enten about Harris’ general support among voters with college degrees.
“It’s basically the same story. This is historically high approval ratings for Democratic candidates, and right now we see Kamala Harris leading by 21 points in the polls. This is Joe Biden. That’s three points higher than he was four years ago and six points higher than Hillary Clinton was eight years ago,” the data reporter said. “The bottom line, Mr. Berman, is that the electorate is becoming more polarized on education, and Democrats are benefiting from that, at least among college-educated voters. And Kamala Harris is He has historically performed well as a Democrat.”
Enten also pointed out that by 2024, “it looks like a historically high 41% of voters will have a college degree.”
“This is a big reason why Kamala Harris is still in the race. [is] “She’s lost some support among voters without a college degree, but she’s quickly gaining support among voters with a college degree, especially white voters with a college degree,” he said.
Trump had higher approval ratings among black and Hispanic voters than in past elections. Nationally, Harris leads the former president by just 2.3 percentage points. According to to the average of RealClearPolling.
