Red Lobster closure in Yuma leaves 30+ without a job

Yuma, Arizona (AZ Family) — Red Lobster’s Yuma store is the one most affected by the company’s bankruptcy. It closed on Sunday and more than 30 employees lost their jobs without notice.

The store is one of more than 100 to permanently close since the company filed for bankruptcy in May.

“I found out through a co-worker. She was kind enough to call me and tell me,” said Sidney Willoughby, now a former employee of the restaurant chain.

Willoughby has been working at Red Lobster for nearly a year. She said some of her co-workers learned right after their Sunday shift that they no longer had a job. Many employees said the closure was a shock.

“It’s very difficult, I didn’t have enough money to pay my rent, and I was really relying on my ability to work this week. It would have been much easier to find a job while still making money, rather than trying desperately to find a job,” Willoughby said. said.

Hahn was surprised by the number of applicants.

“These people have lost their jobs, and I want to make sure they’re employed and don’t have to worry about where the money is coming from,” Hahn said.

Red Lobster still has locations in Flagstaff, Prescott and Tucson, with nine locations in the Valley.
