CNN anchor Anderson Cooper was hit by a flying object Wednesday night while reporting from Bradenton, Florida, as Hurricane Milton made landfall in the area.
Live coverage Shortly after Hurricane Milton made landfall, Cooper was struck by flying debris as he stood against the backdrop of strong winds and swollen water from the Manatee River. Mr. Cooper was making a report when a square object blown by the storm’s powerful wind gusts struck him in the chest and face. Mr Cooper was visibly shocked, but quickly regained his composure and updated viewers.

“The wind was really picking up,” he said. “You can really see the water moving. You can tell how fast the wind is blowing. You can see it in the light there. It’s flying out of the Manatee River right now. I think it’s coming from the north, from the northeast. And now, when I look at the graph, it’s like, “Oh!
Despite the harrowing experience, Mr. Cooper continued to provide updates on the impact of the hurricane, noting significant flooding caused by both river and land overflows. “Okay, that wasn’t good,” Cooper said. “I think we’ll be inside soon. But we can see the amount of water here on the ground. Landing.” (Related: Kamala Harris complains about hurricane becoming political day after attacking DeSantis for not answering phone calls)
Hurricane Milton weakened from a Category 4 before hitting Siesta Key, Florida, as a Category 3 storm with sustained winds of 190 miles per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center. Authorities earlier in the week warned residents along Florida’s Gulf Coast to evacuate or prepare for a severe impact.
