The Yuma Bicycle Coalition dedicated a memorial bike to Alan Cunningham on 32nd Street.

YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) – On January 20, 2022, Alan Cunningham’s family and friends should be together to celebrate his golden birthday.

Instead, they are still looking for justice.

On May 5, 2021, Cunningham was killed by a car while biking across 32nd Street.

Yuma police say the vehicle that hit him was a 2011-2013 Chrysler 200.

However, the investigation is still open.

“We’re getting very emotional right now. Alan isn’t here. He’s supposed to be celebrating his birthday here today,” said Cecilia Rodriguez, Alan’s mom.

However, his memory and legacy live on.

“Everything I do in my day-to-day life, I try to make it a little bit better for him,” said Angel Gomez.

On his birthday, the Yuma Bicycle Coalition dedicates a commemorative bicycle to Alain.

This is to warn riders and drivers that special safety precautions should be taken in the area.

“Memorial Bikes are part of the cycling community across the country. When someone loses their life in a bicycle accident, we try to remember where it was,” said Gene Dalby.

Also to support Alan was Yuma City Councilman Mike Shelton. He hopes today’s gathering will persuade someone who knows something to come forward.

“It’s really nice to have so many friends and family here and to see so many horns honking in the streets. It shows that Yuma is a truly caring community,” Shelton said. .

Alan’s mother hopes that at this point in the investigation, someone will have the courage to admit their crime.

“I encourage anyone who knows anything about the accident to do the right thing, not just for themselves, but for everyone here,” Rodriguez said.

There is a cash reward for anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of the person who beat and killed Alan Cunningham.
