Customs and Border Protection statistics show a significant drop in the number of illegal immigrants entering Yuma County illegally.
CBP record New figures from the Yuma Sector Border Patrol confirm that anxiety has dropped by about 65%.
Yuma Sector Border Patrol Acting Chief Patricia McGurk Daniel reports that agents arrested more than 2,200 migrants in the week of Jan. 15.
That’s down slightly from the previous week, but down significantly from December, when investigators confirmed more than 7,600 arrests a week.
However, Yuma’s agents have taken over 130 unaccompanied minors.
This is an increase from the previous week when they encountered about 80 people.
The sector has seen no drug activity this week, although Agents have thwarted one human smuggling attempt.
Yuma Sector agents made one rescue last week. They also responded to 10 of her 911 calls.
CBP believes that Title 42 changes that prevent immigrants from Cuba, Venezuela, Haiti, and Nicaragua from seeking asylum have reduced overall illegal entry.
Since President Joe Biden announced the policy change on January 5, officials have seen a 97% drop in encounters with people migrating from these countries across the southern border.
