2020 NHL Draft 1st pick, left wing Alexis Lafreniere On Friday, he agreed to a seven-year contract extension with the New York Rangers.
The 23-year-old’s new contract features an average annual value (AAV) of $7.45 million. ESPNwhich will last until the end of the campaign in 2031-2032. (Related: Florida Panthers win first Stanley Cup in franchise history, reward Paul Maurice with contract extension)
Lafreniere didn’t live up to expectations in his first three seasons in the NHL, but 2023-2024 was a breakout year for the Canadian player.
Lafreniere played in 82 games and had 28 goals and 29 assists for 57 total points. His performance during New York University’s rise in the postseason was incredible, and they ultimately advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals after losing to the Florida Panthers. In 16 playoff games, Lafreniere scored 14 points and was tied for the team lead in goals against center field (8 points). Vincent Trocheck.

I know there was some doubt about Alexis Lafreniere, but he’s gotten progressively better over the years. It was only a matter of time before he finally exploded into stardom. And it’s not just his performance last year, he’s already shown his greatness this year, recording four goals and three assists in seven games.
He is averaging 17.51 ice minutes per game, the highest of his career.
