Democratic New York Mayor Eric Adams will go on trial on federal corruption charges starting April 21, 2025, a U.S. judge ruled Friday.
U.S. District Judge Dale Ho set a hearing date in Manhattan federal court, over the objections of Adams’ attorney Alex Spiro. Mr. Spiro had hoped to conclude the trial over the mayor’s alleged dealings with Turkish officials by March, well before the Democratic primary. In June, According to to Reuters. Mr. Adams pleaded not guilty in September, but Mr. Spiro predicted that Mr. Adams would be acquitted without enough time to clear his name before voters went to the polls, saying it would be a “serious threat to our democracy.” warned of concerns.
“It doesn’t give him a realistic chance,” Spiro said, according to Reuters. However, Judge Ho noted the need for a fair and thorough process, saying more time is needed to consider and present evidence, including potentially sensitive material.

Mr. Adams received an unexpected nod from former President Donald Trump, who, like Mr. Adams, is facing a legal battle during his presidential campaign. “Good luck with everything, they came after you,” Trump said during the event, Newsweek reported.

“When, despite our pleas, the federal government did nothing because our shelter system was overburdened with no relief due to broken immigration policies, I believed in the people of New York over political parties and politics. ,” Adams said. “I always knew that if I stood my ground for you, I would become a target. And I became a target myself.”
