Vice President Kamala Harris acknowledged Friday that her first possible executive order, if elected president in November, would be to eliminate college degree requirements for certain federal jobs.

But at an event at the IBEW Regional Union Hall in Janesville, Wis., Harris made clear her intentions to eliminate “unnecessary degree requirements for federal jobs.”

“The press always asks me, ‘What are you going to do on your first day?'” One of the things I’ve been doing since day one is getting a degree, which is unnecessary for a federal job, because it’s something you can do with an executive order. Eliminate the requirement,” Harris said. said. “And I’m going to challenge the private sector to do the same.”

Harris previously outlined her goal in September to ease degree requirements for certain federal jobs to expand opportunities for individuals without a four-year degree. According to to Reuters. data According to U.S. Census Bureau statistics released in early 2023, more than 62% of Americans age 25 and older do not have a bachelor’s degree, and 3 in 5 of those without a degree occupies the majority of voters. “Well, my number one priority, which will probably be a series of bills, is to lower the cost of living,” Harris said. “So it’s a housing issue, it’s a childcare issue, it’s what we need to do to address food prices. So it’s not just one thing, it’s one thing, reducing the cost of living. It’s a package with two purposes.

Harris has reportedly tried to distance herself from President Joe Biden, but she still faces difficulty explaining how her presidency differs from his.

Voters consistently cite the economy, inflation, and immigration as their top election concerns. But despite widespread disapproval of Biden’s performance, Harris recently told ABC’s “The View” that she had “nothing” in mind when asked what she would change from the past five years. He said it didn’t come to mind.
