Dorothy met her lifelong lover and life partner, Norman Voss, and they were married on June 10, 1962. Norman and Dorothy lived in several homes in Bow Creek until 1974, when they settled on a farm near Densmore, Kansas. Dorothy was her great supporter. Dorothy was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and daughter, always there for her family when they needed her. She never met a stranger and will leave a huge gap in our hearts and lives. Her family was the most important aspect of her life. She loved deeply and instilled in her good values, work ethic and the importance of her family. Her beautiful smile was contagious. She taught her children and her grandchildren how to garden, cook, sew, and had the patience of gold. Dorothy made specially decorated cakes and favorite meals for each of her children’s birthdays. The tradition is very special and has been passed on to her children. She hosted many family and friend gatherings, often spurring the moment and making each one a special occasion. I used to eat special treats straight out of the oven when I came home from work. Her homemade ice cream with chocolate cake became a family tradition for special events, sometimes for no reason at all. She was proud of her vast vegetable garden and her flower garden. She usually got “help” from her kittens while gardening. She spent countless hours with her grandchildren reading, playing games, baking pies and teaching them to sew. She made a quilt for each of her grandchildren and crocheted intricate Christmas ornaments for her grandchildren each year. She had a special bond with her puppy, Buddy, who was by her side most of the time.
