Longtime Cobblestone resident sworn in as Maricopa’s new constable

Pinal County Leader appointed William Lee “Bill” Griffin, a resident of Cobblestone Farms, is a constable at Maricopa’s Western Criminal Court District 4 Precinct.

Griffin, a former sheriff’s deputy who is a leader in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was appointed Wednesday to fill the position vacated by Rancho El Dorado Officer Glenn Morrison, who resigned effective Sept. 30. and took an oath.

Mr. Griffin’s appointment will run until December 31, 2026, at which point he may elect to run.

Supervisors also considered another constable application from another Maricopa resident, Christian Glover, husband of newly elected Magistrate Judge Patricia Glover of the 4th Precinct. He runs a legal drafting company in Maricopa.

Mr. Griffin, 69, lost the 2018 election to Mr. Morrison by just 57 votes, but has already contacted Mr. Justice of the Peace Mr. Glover, who is based in Casa Grande and is the Pinal County constable. He said he will receive guidance from his supervisor, Chief Constable Scott Elliott.

“The campaign is pretty dismal,” Griffin said. Inmaricopa. “I don’t understand why people would do that.”

Mr Griffin said he applied for an existing job immediately after Mr Morrison resigned.

He said he looks forward to learning how the county’s constable system wants the “paper flow” in civil court.

He said his position is all about civil and service documents that inform people if they need to go to court for a civil matter related to a lawsuit or legal challenge.

Griffin has been a Maricopa resident since 2007.

“Over 24 years of experience as an Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy. [Calif.] Dear Sheriff’s Department, I bring a wealth of law enforcement knowledge that perfectly aligns with the duties of a constable,” Griffin told county supervisors in his application cover letter. “I am particularly drawn to this role because it allows me to serve the community, which is the foundation of my career and personal life. During my tenure as a sheriff’s deputy, I was able to conduct civil litigation, write reports, I have a deep understanding of the enforcement of court orders. I am skilled at writing accurate reports and have the attention to detail essential to completing affidavits of service and filing documents in court. We are very careful.”
