‘Food and Country’ Film Premiere

The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “Food and Country” from Nov. 1 to 7 at the Alice Gil Sheldon Theater and the Mary D. Fisher Theater.

Pioneering New York Times food critic, groundbreaking Gourmet Magazine editor, best-selling memoirist, and one of the most influential figures shaping American food culture for decades. Ruth Reichl grows concerned as she grapples with the fate of small farmers, ranchers, and chefs. As the pandemic takes hold, both immediate and organizational challenges arise.

Reichl discovers innovators who cross political and social divides and risk everything to survive on the front lines. As one character guides her to the next, she meets ranchers in Kansas and Georgia, farmers in Nebraska, Ohio and the Bronx, fishermen in New England, and maverick chefs on both coasts. We will follow the story as it unfolds.

As she witnesses them overcome difficult circumstances, Reichl shares parts of her life and in doing so begins to look at the path she has taken and the ideals she has left behind. Through her eyes, we can see the humanity and struggles behind food.

Reichl says: “How we grow and produce our food shows our values as a nation and as human beings.”

“A dynamic look at the precarious state of America’s food system.” — Justin Lowe, The Hollywood Reporter

“An invitation to care about the truth about how we eat.” — Alyssa Wilkinson, Vox
