Coconino Has No Trouble Against Flagstaff

A balanced attack helped Coconino outscore Flagstaff in each quarter en route to Friday’s victory. The Coconino Panthers defeated the Flagstaff Eagles with a 49-26 victory. Friday’s blowout loss is nothing new, considering the Panthers have won five games this season by a margin of 22 points or more.

Coach Coconino let his senior duo take command, with Fernando Ramirez rushing for 138 yards and two touchdowns while registering 8.1 yards per carry, and Colton Buckingham completing 12-of-12 passing. He threw for 195 yards and three touchdowns. Buckinghams posted a season-high passer rating of 177.1. Ethan Jeffs was also a key player, recording 72 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Flagstaff’s loss shouldn’t overshadow the performances of Jadon Wetzel, who totaled 163 yards and two touchdowns, and Chase Brown, who threw for 222 yards and three touchdowns. Wetzel’s rushing performance was exceptional, with eight consecutive games of at least 100 yards rushing. Another player who made a difference was AJ Valdez, who gained 34 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Coconino has been on a roll lately, winning four of their past five games, significantly improving on their 6-4 record this season. These wins were primarily due to their offensive performance in that stretch, where they averaged 43.0 points per game. Flagstaff has been on a rough road losing three of their last four games, a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season.

Coconino will leave home to tackle Mica Mountain on Friday at 7 p.m. Micah Mountain enters this game on a five-game winning streak at home, so Coconino will have to stop a team with momentum. Flagstaff does not have any further games scheduled at this time.
