A California stalker who drove six hours to his ex-girlfriend’s Maricopa home planned to commit suicide by cop if police stopped him.
The Maricopa Police Department arrested 25-year-old Isaiah A. Slaton on Friday morning on a charge of felony stalking, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Maricopa Police. Inmaricopa.
The ex-girlfriend, who lives in Homestead, called police on Aug. 14 seeking a restraining order against Slaton after she told him she was coming to Arizona and would commit suicide by cop if she called police.
Public records show Slaton lives in Hesperia, California, just north of San Bernardino.
He told police in a phone call on Aug. 15 that he did not intend to come to Maricopa, stating, “I canceled my interview in Maricopa and had no reason to do so.” [his ex-girlfriend] employed,” the police report states.
A swarm of license plate reading cameras At 9:51 a.m. on Aug. 16, police intercepted Slaton’s car as it drove through Maricopa.
Police found Slaton near Jubilee Place and Festival Lane in a gated section of the Homestead and arrested him. The police report said Slaton admitted to stalking his ex-girlfriend and said he knew she had blocked him online.
Slaton was booked into the Pinal County Jail and remained on $5,000 bond Tuesday. He faces a possible sentence of three years in prison.
