Astros End Stadium’s Legendary Run As ‘Minute Maid Park,’ And It’s More Evidence That Money Taints Everything

The Houston Astros announced Monday morning that the iconic Minute Maid Park will be rebranded as “Daikin Park.” The franchise sold the naming rights to Daikin Comfort Technologies for a total sum. 15 years.

Daikin, a “comfort technology” and HVAC company, has launched the Quietflex, Goodman, and Amana brands.

“We are excited to partner with Daikin regarding the naming rights for the stadium,” said Astros owner and chairman Jim Crane. “Daikin is an international company that proudly calls the Houston metropolitan area its home in North America. The Houston Astros and Daikin share the same values, commitment to excellence, and giving back to our local communities. 2025 As we celebrate the stadium’s 25th anniversary, we are proud to work with Daikin to create even more special memories for our current and future fans.”

Don’t get me wrong, I’m into capitalism and making money, but I can’t stand it when money gets in the way of something that’s culturally iconic. Minute Maid Park should definitely be on your list. I mean, damn, I remember playing baseball games on the PlayStation when I was a kid. Minute Maid Park was always a big part of that game. It’s just one of those stadiums.

As I grew up, it disappeared…just like that…because of the HVAC company.

This is 2024, baby.
