WILLIAMS, Arizona – A massive search is underway for a missing boy in Williams.
Thirteen-year-old Gryffyn Edens was last seen mid-afternoon on Thursday, January 19, at his residence near Cureton Park, off Grand Canyon Boulevard.
Williams Police Chief Tad Weigal said: “He was probably gone from his home around 2:00 pm, or 4:30 pm at the latest.” “He left home.”
Griffin’s family said he is a high functioning special needs. He has a speech impediment and hearing loss.
He’s about 5’1′ and 97 lbs. He has medium length brown hair.
He was last seen wearing black trainers, tennis shoes, and possibly blue jeans.
Wigal said Williams Police, Williams Fire Department and the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office were involved in the initial search, with the Coconino County Search and Rescue Squad (CCSAR) recently arriving.
“We are working on a grid system and they (CCSAR) will essentially take over search,” said Wygal.
Wygal said police are not looking for volunteers in Cureton Park at this time, but are asking the community to search around their homes.
“Wherever you think young children are going to take refuge during the cold, snowy months, look no further,” he said. “We are concerned about exposure and have no reason to believe there is criminal activity, but we cannot rule it out.”
According to Weigal, the Williams Police Department has set up a command post in Cureton Park and is working hard to find Griffin, as cold weather and snow are forecast.
“I will have the search and rescue team make the next call[for the next phase of the search],” he said. “They are working on a plan now. Initial searches found nothing. (We are concerned) because it was between five and seven hours after the last sighting.”
