Why don’t we all get along? The terrorists don’t seem to have gotten the memo.
Allstate CEO Tom Wilson addressed the already-delayed live Sugar Bowl and television audience Thursday night in a deeply tone-deaf manner, saying that 50 years ago he would still be in the public eye. I appealed for politeness, which I must have heard without realizing it.
Jihadists killed and seriously injured dozens of innocent Americans in a hate-fueled rampage. Allstate’s CEO thinks Americans watching the Sugar Bowl need a lesson from him on how to overcome their “addiction to division and negativity.”

“Welcome to the Allstate Sugar Bowl,” the insurance executive began. “A tragedy struck the New Orleans community on Wednesday. Our prayers are with the victims and their families.”
“We also need to be stronger together by overcoming our addiction to discord and negativity. Join Allstate in working in local communities across the country to amplify the positive and Let’s build trust and accept people’s flaws and differences. There are two problems here.
First, the obvious absurdity. “Please be kind to one another” is what the appeal is all about. It may work in a kindergarten class or a catty women’s book club, but it will be impossible to stop a raging jihadist on a divine mission to mow down crowds of innocent pedestrians. This is like sending a 7th century barbarian to a human resources seminar. Philosophical differences are insurmountable. Let’s send this fat social worker into a Taliban camp and see if we can make a breakthrough. I cannot understand the views of those who would like to see Western civilization wiped off the face of the earth.
Second, there are insidious implications. It was all You’re addicted to “division”. Those who cannot embrace “difference” or diversity have some responsibility here. Now, these may be perfectly neutral words, but it’s difficult to separate them from the clearly leftist cultural context that exists today. When they talk about hate and division, whether it’s Antifa leftists, government officials, or business owners, they mean: you They refuse to participate in their self-imposed social consensus. Do you think there might be a problem with Middle Eastern Muslims assimilating into American secular culture? Do you have the courage to say something nasty about it online? you Why terrorists kill people.
As any honest observer would notice, only terrorists are responsible for their misdeeds. And it’s going to take a lot more time than fireside kumbaya to stop it.
