FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – A winter storm is forecast to bring snow, strong winds and warmer temperatures to northeastern Arizona starting Tuesday afternoon, creating potentially hazardous conditions on I-40 and surrounding roads. There is a possibility that a moving situation may occur. Residents should prepare for snow accumulation and reduced visibility in affected areas.

Snow is expected to start falling late Tuesday morning and continue into the night with stronger winds and heavier snow, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Flagstaff office. Snow levels are expected to drop below 4,500 feet, with up to 2 inches of snow expected to fall in the northeast areas of Flagstaff and the Mogollon Rim. Travelers should drive with caution, especially in the evening as wind gusts up to 49 mph could bring snow and roads could become slippery.

High temperatures on Tuesday are expected to reach 34 degrees Fahrenheit, with temperatures dropping to 20 degrees Fahrenheit overnight. The cold weather continued Wednesday with highs near 33 degrees Fahrenheit and similar snow conditions in the morning. Winds are expected to subside by Wednesday evening as skies clear.

Looking ahead, Thursday and Friday are expected to be sunny with high temperatures in the mid-40s. However, overnight low temperatures will remain below freezing, increasing the risk of icy spots on roads.

The NWS advises residents to stay up to date on weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall periods, and wear warm clothing when venturing outdoors.
