sedona news – The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “Vermilio” at the Alice Gil Sheldon Theater from January 17th to 22nd.
Vermiglio, from Italy, was shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film and was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Film (Non-English).
From frigid winter to redemptive spring, the lush, breathtaking beauty of the Alps, photographed with painterly grace under natural light, is captured by Maura, winner of the Silver Lion at the 2024 Venice Film Festival. It serves as the physical and emotional backdrop for Del Perro’s visionary film Vermiglio. .
Set in the small mountain village of Vermiglio at the end of World War II, this singular portrait of a vast family follows a series of dramatic consequences following the arrival of a taciturn Sicilian soldier (Giuseppe de Domenico). It is a depiction of The town after deserting the army. While there, the soldier develops a romance with Lucia (Martina Scrinzi), the eldest daughter of the family.
“Vermiglio” depicts the life of a rural family living in a remote village, frozen in time by the customs of a vanishing era. Del Perro crafts a deeply personal and human story that recalls the stories of his own family’s past and recalls the great neorealist movement in Italian cinema, but through Lucia’s perspective, “Vermiglio” It feels unique and innovative.

“Vermilio” will be performed at the Alice Gill Sheldon Theater from January 17th to 22nd. Showtimes are Friday and Saturday, January 17th and 18th, at 6:30 p.m. Monday, January 20th, 3:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Wednesday, January 21 and 22, at 3:30 and 6:30 p.m.
