The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected President-elect Donald Trump’s ruling in New York.
Judge Juan Melchan had previously scheduled sentencing for Friday morning, deciding it would be better to impose a sentence before Trump’s term begins rather than after it ends.
In an emergency motion Wednesday, President Trump urged the justices to halt the sentencing, saying his appeal “ultimately centers on the district attorney’s misconduct and false allegations from the outset.” “It would lead to the dismissal of flawed and politically motivated prosecutions.” A disgraced former lawyer who was a serial liar violated President Trump’s due process rights with no merit. ”

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said in a prepared statement Thursday that there was “no basis” to halt the sentence. pay attention There can only be one president at a time. “No person other than a government employee shall perform any official duties that would be compromised by the conclusion of a criminal case against a civilian in private action,” the brief states.
A Manhattan jury found Trump guilty in May of 34 counts of falsifying business records related to a non-disclosure agreement with Stormy Daniels, but prosecutors, at Marchand’s direction, did not record the records for concealment purposes. Jurors were not required to agree on the underlying crime of tampering.
