FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Flagstaff has issued a Red Flag Warning from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday as high winds and low relative humidity significantly increase the risk of wildfires. .

The warning affects areas including Flagstaff, Show Low, Winslow, Williams and White Mountain, the NWS said. Winds are expected to reach 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching 40 mph, and relative humidity is expected to drop to 5 to 10 percent. Areas affected include portions of the Apache-Sitgreaves, Coconino, Kaibab, Prescott and Tonto National Forests.

The NWS warns that the combination of strong winds and dry conditions could cause fires to spread rapidly, complicating the efforts of first responders. Residents are advised to avoid activities that could cause a fire, such as shooting, gardening, and campfires. Local fire regulations remain in effect and officials urge residents to check weather.gov/flagstaff for the latest information.

The weather pattern will change next week, with cooler temperatures and the possibility of rain and snow starting Monday, but the fire danger is expected to remain high through Saturday.
