MCC women’s soccer head coach receives national award of excellence | The Buzz -The buzz in Bullhead City – Lake Havasu City – Kingman – Arizona – California

Mojave County – Mojave Community College Women’s Head Soccer Coach, Cynthia Cervantes, received the National Latino Coach of Excellence Award from the United Soccer Coaches Organization. She won her award Friday, January 13, at the organization’s convention, the world’s largest annual meeting of college soccer coaches, in Philadelphia.

This award recognizes an individual, organization, group or other entity that has made extraordinary achievements in the Latin football community. The winner has made a huge impact through the game of football, instilling sportsmanship and teaching life skills such as responsibility and teamwork.

“I am grateful and humbled to receive this award,” said Cervantes. It’s a chance to thank my family, my mentors, and where I’m headed.”

She is a leader and mentor in the Latino community in her hometown of El Paso, Texas. In December 2022, she joined the Mojave County community when the MCC hired her as the head coach of Northwest Arizona’s first college-level women’s soccer team.

Coach Cervantes has been coaching professionally for over ten years. She was her director of coaching for Juventus FC in El Paso and was also coach of the New Mexico Youth in her soccer Olympic development programme.

She earned a Master’s degree in Recreation and Sports Science from Ohio University. Eastern She has a BA in Business Administration and Physical Education from the University of Mexico.

Cervantes’ coach credits her father for introducing her to the game, and thanks her family for their support and mentors who encouraged her. Former US Women’s National Team star Brandi Chastain is an assistant coach for the US Western Regional Olympic Development Program. Chastain is her two-time Olympic gold medalist. She won her first in 1996 and her second in 2004.
