It’s been a tough night for the Prescott Lady Badgers in their quest to overtake the Grand Canyon region’s top teams over the past eight seasons. Flagstaff’s pressure defense and external fire were too much to overcome in a 59-44 setback to the Lady Eagles.

The victory extended Flagstaff’s streak’s win streak to 100 games and has not lost any Grand Canyon area matches since January 10, 2017. The Lady Eagles won the 8th straight straight region title by winning Prescott for 18 consecutive wins.

Flagstaff coach Tyrone Johnson said: Girls are always playing hard. We really wanted to get this game because Prescott is a great team and can use more PowerPoint to improve our rankings as we prepare for the playoffs. “In the latest poll, Flagstaff sits at #4, while Prescott is currently ranked 9th.

It was a tight game in the first quarter. Prescott held a 4-3 and 9-7 lead, but they never looked back after the Lady Eagles tied the game down with 11 and took the lead.

With Bella Abuto, building the court with the ball on top, from outside shots to fighting hard in the paint, it’s huge by keeping the female badger closed quickly. did. ABT left everything on the court with a 21-point high game. Addie Prisciandaro scored 15 and was challenged on almost every shot.

Freshman Sunshine Begdy led the Lady Eagles with 18 points. Junior Carter Edison scored 17, while senior Teagan Martin added 16.

Flagstaff led by three after a quarter, but the Lady Badgers offense left the building and only scored four points left a 27-18 deficit in the half.

Flagstaff came out again and put pressure on Prescott. With every little run for the Lady Badgers, it seemed Flagstaff would force a turnover and get a quick bucket to fill the lead.

After chasing three-quarters of a 43-30, the Lady Badgers only got close in the final eight minutes.

Flagstaff will play for Coconino and Prescott will travel to Mingus on Tuesday. Both games begin at 7pm.
