Badgers Softball Kicks Off Season Taking Four of Five at CSN Classic

The Snow College softball team kicked off the 2023 season with four wins in the College of Southern Nevada Coyote Classic over the weekend. The Badgers beat Glendale Community College 8-4, and in the preseason he beat No. 9 Central Arizona College 9-4, Arizona Western College 4-1, and No. 19 Eastern Arizona College. We went down 19-8.

The Badgers finished the 2022 season 20-34 overall and 16-24 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.As a result, Snow College Mikel Magarogo Appointed as the new head coach of softball. Magarogo joined the Badgers last season after serving as his assistant coach at College of Southern Idaho.

The Badgers started the season against Pima Community College. It was a back and forth game throughout that the Badgers ultimately lost 12-9. PCC scored 3 runs in both the first and second innings. The Badgers fought back, scoring 4 in first, 1 in second and 2 in third to take a 7–6 lead.

The Aztecs scored six runs between the fourth and sixth while limiting the Badgers to just two runs in the final four frames to earn the win.Snow College recorded 10 hits while McCall Maxfield, Bailey BowersWhen Kaylee Lyman Each drove in two runs.

Snow College turned to face GCC and took their first win of the season with an 8-4 victory.Bowers and Olivia Spear Each hit a home run and paced the Badgers offensively.with Colonel Shibuya Hadi Hadley Each scored two doubles and drove in a total of three runs to help win.

Kashi Smith After Snow College allowed four runs in the first innings without recording an out, he took over inside the circle. She pitched seven innings while striking out nine batters and allowing zero walks while scattering just three hits to shut down the Gaucho offense. Smith was awarded her SWAC Her Pitcher of the Week award for her efforts against the GCC.

Snow College wrapped up day one with a 9-4 victory over CAC. Vaqueros ranked him ninth in his NJCAA preseason rankings, and in 2022 he beat the Badgers twice.

Hadley had a perfect game going 3-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Seven of the nine starters scored at least one hit as the Badgers scored a total of nine runs on 13 hits for a 9–4 victory.

Snow College played AWC on Day 2 of the weekend and won 4-1. Snow College led 2-0 after the first top. The Matadors cut the lead in half at the end of the inning, but the Badgers added insurance runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to secure the win.

Andrea Sweat He threw a complete game, allowing one earned run on five hits. First win of the season with 4 batters striking out. Kaitlyn Slade Going 3-3, it was a perfect day driving in one of Badger’s four runs.

The Badgers wrapped up the weekend with a 19-8 victory over the 19th-ranked EAC in the preseason rankings. Snow College scored 11 runs in the first inning and never looked back. With 18 hits throughout the game, the Badgers added eight runs in the final four frames to finish the game via the Mercy rule in five innings.

Seven of the nine Snow College starters had at least two hits, led by Hadley, who scored three runs for a 3–4. Brynley Ellsworth, again made 3-4 and scored two runs. In total, Badger hit five home runs during the game. Lyman and Bowers each hit two homers, Andrea Sweat Cleared the first light field wall of the season.

Hadley finished the weekend 10-18 with three doubles, one triple and five RBIs. Bowers recorded 9 wins, 18 losses, 3 home runs, 9 his runs and 1.167 slugging in the two-day tournament. Shibuya scored his team-high 11 runs as he hit two in each game over the weekend.

The Badgers will end their non-conference schedule next week at the Western Shootout in Yuma, Arizona. Rematch with AWC, PCC, CAC and EAC. Over the weekend he will face the AWC on February 2nd at 3pm. Visit snowbadgers.com for other start times.
