Fmr GOP Gov Schools Van Jones On ‘Advice and Consent’ After He Whines About Kash Patel Confirmation

Former Republican Minnesota Governor Tim Pollenti said the US Senate experienced “advice and consent” before Jones confirmed FBI director Kash Patel after complaining about Trump’s candidate. He told CNN’s Van Jones.

Patel was confirmed as President Donald Trump’s new FBI director on Thursday afternoon, passing the final 51-49 vote despite efforts to delay confirmation by Democrats. On “Erin Burnett Outfront,” Burnett asked Jones what he thought about Patel’s approval. Jones responded that despite Trump’s ability to “set who he wants,” candidates still have to go through the “advice and consent” process.

“The US president can set up whatever he wants. He can set up a frog Kermit,” Jones said. “He can hold back who he wants, but the US Senate’s advice and consent function is sometimes because the president makes bad judgments, because you said you’re going to sway that place. That doesn’t mean that you have to literally include people who don’t have qualifications.”

Patel, former chief of staff for the Secretary of Defense during Trump’s first administration, became a prominent voice during the 2016 election in calling for a Mueller investigation into “Russian intervention.” Additionally, the newly confirmed FBI director has spoken openly about weaponizing surveillance conditions, calling for a “24/7 office.”

During his confirmation hearing, Democrats like Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin and California Sen. Adam Schiff tried to corner Patel over allegations related to a previous statement regarding the defendant on January 6th. did. But Patel pushed back and called out Durbin for former President Joe Biden to merciless his family and violent criminals. Patel said Schiff’s comments were “a lie.”
