MARICOPA, Ariz. — A police officer was injured and the man is dead after a police-involved shooting in Maricopa on Thursday afternoon.
Officials say the incident took place near SR 347 (John Wayne Parkway) and Bowlin Road around 2:50pm after Maricopa police officers found the “known violent felony” on an unpaid warrant.
The man identified as 38-year-old Keith Tyler Plock saw the officer and tried to leave. Officials say he shot Maricopa police officers several times.
The officers fired and eventually shot and killed Prock.
The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office says Prock had a widespread violent criminal history and was associated with major gangs.
One officer was shot dead and taken to Valley Hospital in a stable state.
“This incident is a reminder of the dangers our officers face every day to keep our community safe. Our department is like family. So when one of us gets hurt, we all feel it. Thankfully, our officers survive, their prognosis is positive, their prognosis is positive. “However, they suffered serious injuries that take time to heal. We are grateful for the support we received from Maricopa residents and fellow law enforcement departments in Pinal County and the Valley.”
The incident is under investigation.
