Yuma, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – New details regarding a double murder in downtown Yuma.
Yuma police say they have found a suspect who is currently in prison.
Police say Guadalupe Pelayo, 47, turned himself in Monday night.
On Tuesday, he appeared in court for the first time and was held on two counts of first-degree murder.
Two men were shot in downtown Yuma just after 1 a.m. Monday.
Police said the suspect turned up at the police station shortly after 8 p.m. Monday night.
“At approximately 8:24 p.m. last night, 47-year-old Guadalupe Pelayo turned himself in to Yuma police on the incident, was questioned, was detained, arrested, and held in Yuma County. It’s referring to first-degree murder,” said Sergeant Lori Franklin.
Police have also released the identities of two victims, Francisco Lopez, 41, and Luis Navarrete, 35.
Lopez died at the scene and Navarrete died in hospital.
Sergeant Franklin says this is still an ongoing investigation, even though they have made arrests.
“The investigation is still ongoing because we need to continue investigating evidence and other things just because someone turned himself in, but we have made one arrest in connection with this.
Pelayo’s bond has been set at $2 million, cash only, and he is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday afternoon.
