The future workforce in Yuma County has resources in Wellton thanks to the 5,600-square-foot multi-purpose training facility that Arizona Western College and project officials broke the ground last weekend.
Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs and AWC president Daniel Coli met with staff in eastern Yuma County for the future 48 Workforce Processors. They say the building will equip the Wellton Manufacturing Training Center and will provide training in electrical technology, advanced manufacturing, broadband fiber and solar installations.
Before the groundbreaking, Hobbs met briefly with Yuma County Sheriff Leon Wilmott. Hobbs told KAWC he would provide details in the private conversation, but told him that Hobbs had discussed earlier announcements of a joint task force called Operation Guardian of the Desert.
Sheriff Wilmott previously said he had not been informed of Hobbs’ announcement in advance and was skeptical of the task force.
Welton was one of two stops for Gov. Hobbs of Yuma County on Thursday. She spoke with community leaders at the Yuma County Chamber of Commerce luncheon at Yuma Civic Center.
