Flagstaff, Arizona (azfamily) – Winter weather has arrived in northern Arizona, leading to school closures and traffic restrictions.
Snow begins to fall early Thursday morning and is expected to intensify throughout the day as the first of the two storms travels through the state. The snow quickly covered roads in areas like Flagstaff, where traffic was moving slowly.
Furthermore, northward State Route 64 was temporarily closed along the stretch of the South Rim in the Grand Canyon. It was then resumed. Officials at Grand Canyon National Park are recommending visitors postpone their trip until Saturday, when winter weather is expected to leave the state.

The first of the two storms is to travel through Arizona on Thursday. This could cause up to 8 inches of snow to Flagstaff and other areas.
Some districts have cancelled schools in places like Flagstaff and Williams. See the current list of school closures here.
The winter storm warning will then be enacted at 11pm ahead of the second storm heading towards Arizona. Friday is the first statewide alert day for winter weather in the highlands and possible rain in other areas, including the Valley.
