Maricopa police said no officers were injured in Friday’s incident.
MARICOPA, Ariz. – Three people are in custody after driving from a vehicle allegedly involved in the hit and run incident, according to Maricopa police.
At about 9am on Friday, police tried to stop a traffic stop on a vehicle bound by an incident in the Cedars area of the desert. Three residents of the suspect’s vehicle ran, two of whom were immediately taken into custody.
Police pursued the third suspect, who was later found in a backyard armed with a rifle. While officers were trying to detain the suspect, police said “a shooting occurred involving an officer.” Neither the suspect nor the officer was hit.
Police said the suspect eventually surrendered and was taken into custody. Two firearms were recovered from the scene.
The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office will conduct an investigation into the police shooting.
Maricopa Police said no further details about the incident that are currently disclosed are available.
