Former Republican Oregon Rep. Lori Chavez Deremar confirmed that the Senate will lead the Department of Labor on Monday with a bipartisan vote of 67 to 32, marking the most bipartisan vote since the Senate confirmed Scott Bescent became Treasury Secretary in January.
Chavez-Deremer received bipartisan support throughout confirmation process. Supported by several Democrats on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee Committee on February 19, Republican Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul was the only Republican to vote against President Donald Trump’s leadership in the division.
Paul’s decision stems from her support of Congress. Protect your right to organizing (Pro)Act – A bill that prohibits employers from permanently replacing strike workers and bans offensive lockouts. The bill also blocks state-level laws that prevent employers and union workers from being forced to pay union fees as a condition of employment.
Professional behavior is in conflict with Right to worksponsored by Paul and widely supported by Republicans, the rights of workers of workers support workers without paying fees or joining unions.
“I am a national spokesman and the lead author of the Workplace Rights Bill. Her support for professional law will not only oppose the state rights of the state, but also preempt the state law on workplace rights – I don’t think that’s a good thing,” Paul said, adding, “I think.” I said January NBC News. “And that’s a big problem for me, and supporting her is a big problem.”
At the hearing of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee hearing, Chavez-Deremer returned her support for the bill to consider her appointment, and instead expressed that she would “renew and modernize the need for labor laws to reflect today’s workforce and business environment.”
“As a member of Congress, the Pro Act was a bill that would have a deep and important conversation for people in Oregon’s Fifth Congressional District,” said Chavez Delemer. I said At a committee hearing. “I recognize that the bill is incomplete and I recognize that I no longer represent Oregon as a lawmaker.”
Chavez Deremar served as mayor of Oregon’s Happy Valley from 2011 to 2019, and later made her start in politics representing Oregon’s 5th Congressional District from 2023 to 2025.
During the hearing, Chavez Deremar also mentioned strengthening the workforce by making childcare more accessible, adding to the vision of thriving working families that many lawmakers have.
Republican Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley wrote an OP-ED expressing his support for her nomination. (Related: Chavez Deremar is the realization of Trump’s professional worker platform)
“Rebuilding America requires a prosperous family life. It means that our mission is to facilitate children, restore parents as pillars of family life, and ensure that American workers earn family wages. The dignity of decent jobs and stable income is the first step,” writes Holy.
“This is exactly like a professional worker and what I hoped was when America’s first labor policy voter elected President Trump. Lori Chavez Deremar fits Trump’s vision. I’m proud to be able to support his candidate. My colleagues should do the same.”
Almost every job during Biden administrators is “I went to foreign *foreign *workers. If you want to help American workers, close the borders.

Chavez Deremar, another lawmaker who supports Republican Louisiana Sen. Bill Cassidy, thinks she is a ticket to enact a “pro-American agenda.”
“The Biden administration has threatened its ability to use that authority as a weapon against workers, threatening its ability to earn a living and provide it to families. Once President Trump takes office, there will be an opportunity to establish a worker-first agenda in the Labor Department,” Dr. Cassidy said. “Secretary Chavez Deremar is working on this mission and is ready to work with the Help Committee to ensure a better future for all workers.”
So does Chavez-Deremer backing by multiple labor unions including Team StarPresident Sean M. O’Brien expressed his support for her on February 11th.
“As the daughter of Teamsters, Lori Chavez Deremar knows the importance of carrying a Union Card and what it means to grow up in a middle-class family,” O’Brien said. “Workers need someone with her experience leading an agency tasked with protecting workers, creating union jobs and rebuilding our country’s middle class. Teamsters thank President Trump for putting American workers first by nominating Rep. Chavez Deremar for this important role.”
