Department Of Education Makes Major Cuts To Staff

The Daily Caller News Foundation has learned that the Department of Education has eliminated almost half of its employees.

Of the 4,133 department employees, 1,315 were notified of elimination through force reductions at 6pm Tuesday, department officials told DCNF. Previously, 259 people were cut as part of the postponed resignation program, with 313 accepting voluntary separation incentive payments of $25,000, and 63 probation employees were fired in February, leaving 2,183 employees remaining.

The layoffs were part of the Trump administration’s greater efforts to eliminate government waste and improve the country’s education. The cuts will not affect the functioning of the department, officials said, but they would begin a process to ensure more education surveillance occurs at the state level.
